Announcing the winner of the stand-up bootcamp contest!
Guys. . .
Amazing, amazing entries. I almost want to comment on each one of
them. But we don’t have that kind of time. Most of you probably won’t
read this because you think a name is on the bottom of this. You should
read it.
Before I say the winner, I have to say first off, I fucking love what
Chet Wild just wrote, I thought that if you really read what he wrote,
you will see that he is someone who is going after his destiny, and sees
the true value of what his life will be like and how to maximize
opportunities.
I recommend everyone read that so you can see how much you really can do
with something. Any one of you are able to do that at this event,
making it worth 100s of thousands of dollars. You just need to trust
yourself and truly take action. Go full force. It is the only way to
live. We have this one life and we truly half ass everything. Any of
you are capable of writing what he wrote and really seeing a future.
Nice job Chet.
Many of you really went on a limb and did all kinds of clever little
things, I see a couple people that even if you did not win, you will be
getting a call or email today for a different thing. I really enjoyed
all, but I have to pick one of you, because I have to pay a lot of
things to do this bootcamp.
I have been thinking about it a lot and Dawn Nash wins. I love how she
started the creative movement of having other people tell me why she
should win. This was truly amazing and I felt that the work that she
put into this shows. The opportunity was right there and she thought
“how can I do this? HOW can I win this contest?” Not “can I”. So she
kept going and going and going and you need to have that kind of drive
to compete in this industry of 108,000 comics.
There are 108,000 comics. About 500 of them are working. To set
yourself apart from the other 107,500 you need to stand out, have
creative material, but come up with brilliant ways of marketing
yourself. Creative out of the box thinking can affect the way you sell
yourself to this industry. I know numerous stories of headlining comics
who have done ridiculous things like mailing themselves to someone,
bringing 100s of people to shows so they can get a guest spot, or just
doing original things to show themselves off and stand out. Look at
Andy Kauffman. He was just so real that he stood out like a monster.
Honestly the funny irony is, it all boils back to just being who you
truly are. You are already creative at birth and then you get
repressed.
My last bootcamp we found everyone’s real voice. A girl who was nervous
translated her act in to being a nervous character on stage. Someone
who was indifferent in life went on stage eating chips the whole time
and reading their notes off the floor because they didn’t give a shit.
Now that is fucking awesome. Who you are is awesome, go back to the
weird shit you thought of as a kid and bring that out.
There are only 20 spots to showcase at this bootcamp. A couple of you
will get calls or emails because we are interested in seeing you from
what you wrote. We see you are in touch with your creativity.
If you are still interested in coming and doing all those things you
said, (we have a few seats left, call Chase at 253-987-6737)
Congrats! Louie, brett, lovitz, byrne, tom, wendy, ant, heffron, alonzo,
porter, bookers, agents, managers and I Looking forward to working with
you for 5 days! Get ready to rip the stage apart.

Congrats to Dawn!
And Kyle, I think it’s awesome that you are helping people find that special something that drives them to be successful. We all have it in us, but you have to REALLY want to let it out if you are going to stand out.
Cheers!

Dawn, congratulations! It’s going to be interesting to watch your transformation from the YouTube clip at Carolines to how you perform in the future. Maybe you could blog about your experience there?
Kyle, I’m going to make it next year. Please continue doing these bootcamps! Hopefully I see you at the Irvine Improv soon.

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! I just spent the last hour crying in joy and calling & emailing friends & family and giving thanks to everyone! Wow! Thank you so much!
To everyone who entered – really great job each and everyone of you! We all deserve a shot and I hope to cross paths with you in the future!
Mr Cease… Thank you for this oppurtunity. I will do my best. Warmest Aloha & Mahalos!
Christian –
Thank you for your warm comments. I have so little standup experience – I can count on my hands and toes the amount of times I’ve done standup because the oppurtunites have been so limited. I am very interested in seeing how I grow from my set at Caroline’s as I about pee’d myself during it I was so nervous! Instead of blogging, I will be posting in my notes section on facebook if you or anyone else wants to follow it you can friend me at facebook.com/dawn.nash
Looking forward to the journey… Warmest Aloha and Mahalo to all of you…
Sincerely,
Dawn Michelle

Congrats Dawn! I’m very happy for you! I have to admit I am really jealous, as I was competing against you after all, but you truly deserve it. make us all proud and really take advantage of the opportunity, you are one of our own (a funny person) and it would be awesome to see you on Comedy Central. I think it would be cool if you wrote on here after the boot camp and tell us all how it went.
Congrats!

Dawn,
You’re going to a hell of a job!
Hey Kyle – my status doesn’t give me chance for October, but let me know ASAP when the next one is. I’m saving and writing new material while working on a new site.
Whoever becomes my agent better have a second life as a pimp, cause I’m gonna become the biggest greasiest Asian whore that’s ever made it out of an orgy located in a military barracks alive.
Now, to make a to do list:
1) Become Asian
2) Become a whore
3) Eat some tacos
4) Buy lotion for kneecaps
5) Write comedy
6) Rinse and Repeat
Hell Yeah. Even without going to boot camp, you sir have lit a FIRE under this ass.
See you in Hollywood!

Oy! Dawn, I have to say that because of the way you approached this, I had to step up my game and make the video.
I think that’s the way that comedy should be approached, comedians driving other comedians to do more, try harder and become better.
Congratulations, I can’t wait to see some stand-up after you’ve finished.
